Some people live for the thrill of intense, one-on-one fighting. They thrive on the click of arcade stick buttons and sideways glances at the player attempting to steal their thunder. Me, I just want to be a robot kicking a bear wearing a ballerina costume while dodging chickens.

Most of my Tekken memories involve me getting beaten to a pulp by people playing as Eddy Goro, so when I think “fun” there are about three hundred and fifty-seven things that come to mind before Namco Bandai’s fighting franchise. I could see Tekken Tag Tournament 2‘s Fight Lab knocking the series up a few dozen rungs. It’s certainly an entertaining way to teach the basics of battle.

My favourite fighting game experience of all time involved some silly game, years ago, that simply ran me through the command list, move-by-move, not letting me progress until I had completed the move on the screen. Every time I get a new fighter the first thing I do is look for such a feature, and if I don’t find it I am very disappointed.

This might not be the same thing, but it’ll do.

You read it right, twelve new characters for Street Fighter X Tekken. They won’t be free though. You’ll be looking at shelling out about $20, which will give you Cody, Guy, Dudley, Elena, Blanka, and Sakura for the Street Fighter side of things, and Lars, Alisa, Jack, Bryan, Christie, and Lei for your Tekken teammates.

This big roster update also comes with the following patches:

As a note to PS3 players, all of your DLC will transfer to your Vita version later this year. There will be a pre-order bonus available at Gamestop, Best Buy, and Amazon. This will give you 12 costumes for these new characters.

Some fighting games leave new players hanging, offering a mediocre tutorial or, even worse, none at all. Not so with Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Namco is so proud of their bizarre tutorial, in fact, they've decided to give it its own trailer.

In most fighting games, new players can usually get buy by simply mashing buttons. That's all well and good to begin with, but what if you want to dig deeper into the game and actually learn how it's supposed to be played? In the case of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, you would simply head to the Fight Lab.

I'm going to give you a moment to let some of what you just saw sink in. In that single trailer (focused on the tutorial, mind you), we saw a robot get attacked by a chicken and an eagle. We also saw a flying sumo wrestler, a giant man, and a woman having her clothes punched off to reveal a bathing suit.

Only in the world of Tekken could all of that zaniness be considered a means by which to learn the game. To be fair, I'm all for it. I'd much rather learn the ins and outs of a fighting engine through fun and lighthearted tasks than having a text box dryly tell me what to press while I mercilessly pummel a static opponent. Instead of simply telling someone to press up to jump, having them perform a jump over raging poultry will likely give that lesson more staying power.

For more Tekken Tag Tournament 2 zaniness, look for the game to release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Sept. 11.

Katsuhiro Harada, game director and chief producer of the Tekken series, has said people shouldn't be concerned with how the Wii U stacks up to its competitors in terms of raw power and should instead consider its unique capabilities and features.

In an interview with Dusty Cartridge Harada said the hardware was more than capable of handling the graphically intensive Tekken Tag Tournament 2, but that's not what's important.

"While developing Tag 2, since it's very graphic intensive because of the multiple characters on screen, there was still some power left over for graphic capabilities so the graphics chips seems to be pretty decent," he said. "But to be honest, that's not really even relevant because people seem to be focusing too much comparing the raw specs to other hardware. You really have to be looking at the capabilities and what features it has."

Harada highlighted the Wii U's ability to migrate the gameplay experience from the TV to the GamePad as one of the consoles exciting opportunities.

"For example, if you're playing Tag 2 on the Wii U at home and your parents get mad at you for taking up the TV too much, you can just take it to your bed and start playing there. Being able to take a high end game and play it in your bed is something that's really unique so that's the thing people are kind of missing."

In a shareholders meeting earlier this month Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said the Wii U's uniqueness is initially difficult to understand, and likened the pessimism surrounding the hardware to similar early responses to the Wii.

WW|Ryan Hart recently had a chance to sit down with well known Japanese Tekken player JDCR to talk about Tekken Tag Tournament 2. In this interview JDCR discusses the mind games revolving around the tag system, which characters he feels are the top 10, differences between Japan and Korea and more.

Here is a bit from the article.

1. RH: So JDCR, let me just start off by asking you, what do you think of Tekken Tag Tournament 2?

JD: Hmm, TTT2 is fun but it is a very weird and random game at times.

RH: Why do you do you say that?

JD: Because of the tag system, and the combo damage being too high. In my opinion it has now become easier for weaker players to overcome experts [in TTT2] than in Tekken 6 BR.

RH: So it’s easier to deal out critical damage from a small opening in defence? Hmm, I can see how that’s a problem. It kind of sounds like there aren’t enough ways to defend or something. I’m not really sure what can be done about that.

JD: One thing that is good about tag combos however is that characters who were bad at combos before are now good because of the tag options allowing them to make better juggles. This is an improvement to the game.

2. RH: Who are the most powerful characters?

JD: Kazuya, Lars, Leo and Devil Jin are the most powerful characters in terms of combos. They are far too strong in juggling. I cannot think of any other characters that can compete with these four in this area.

Shout outs to WW|Ryan Hart for the interview.

The Capcom-Unity blog has been updated with today's Street Fighter X Tekken roll call where producer Ayano-san discusses Sakura, Blanka, Bryan and Jack-X.

Here we have done one per character, but make sure you head over to Capcom-Unity for the full breakdown.
Picture
Sakura Otoshi is a special move where Sakura does a great, big leap forward into the air and smacks her opponents from above with a double fisted attack. If the opponent is on the ground, they’ll take bound damage, but if they’re in the air, they can be hit up to 3 times. Since there’s a lot of recovery on the move if you land on the ground without attacking, make sure to use it in a combo or in a situation where the opponent can’t escape. The EX version of Sakura Otoshi reaches to the edge of the screen and has homing properties, making it a good move to use against projectile characters.
Picture
Blanka’s trademark Rolling Attack sends him flying towards his opponent. If it connects, the opponent is knocked down to the ground, but Blanka is open to a big counterattack if it’s blocked. The EX version is invulnerable to projectiles, and produces a wall bounce to boot.
Picture
Flying Knee, as the name implies, is a jumping knee attack to the opponent’s head. This move is fast, has good reach, and is invulnerable to projectiles while airborne, making it an excellent pressure tool against projectile characters. It also has the peculiar property of being unblockable when used outside of combos. It’s a powerful move, but it doesn’t connect on crouching opponents at all and can leave Bryan open, so players will need to properly plan when they’re going to use this move so they don’t get baited.
Picture
Rocket Uppercut unleashes a diagonal uppercut. While all three versions of the attack can snuff out projectiles, they also have their own individual properties; the LP version has no invincibility but sends an opponent sky high for a follow-up combo, while the MP version is invulnerable to all attacks except for throws. The HP version has full invulnerability

A swimsuit costume set and "Lili's Fluffy Skirt" are among the treats that await gamers playing Bandai Namco’s fighting game “TEKKEN Tag Tournament 2” this September.

Scheduled for release Sept. 11, the two sets will be first press bonuses for the game's versions for Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox360.
The swimsuit costume set, the fourth part of the bonuses, includes costumes for up to 50 characters, with three patterns available for each character.

It also comes at a time when the weather is still hot.

And it won't just be the female characters in swimsuits: so will the male characters, and even the animal and monster characters.

Meanwhile, the fifth and last bonus is the customized “Lili’s Fluffy Skirt,” where your opponent is dressed in a stunning outfit - making you forget you're supposed to fight her.

The latest installment in the "Tekken" franchise has  seen more than 40 million copies shipped.

It features more than 50 characters, the largest number for the series so far, with up to four characters that can be displayed in one screen.

Another feature of the game is “Tag Assault,” which allows two characters to attack at the same time; and “Tag Throw,” which allows two characters to throw the opponent at the same time.

Up to four people can play the game simultaneously.

There is also the good old “2 vs 2 Tag Fight” and the “TEKKEN” basic “1 vs 1 Fight” but with new playing styles such as “1 vs 2 Fight.”

The game supports all fighting styles, making it by far the ultimate edition with all the elements of the “TEKKEN” series.

In the four-character pack are “Michelle”, ”Angel”, “Kunimitsu” and “Ancient Orge” who are participating in the “TEKKEN Tournament” fight for the first time in 12 years.

On the other hand, the original home video game, “Snoop Dogg” stage is the collaboration with the charismatic American hip-hop musician “Snoop Dogg.”

In this game, the stage is surrounded by golden speakers with “Snoop Dogg”s original game emblem shining in the middle of the gold-themed stage.

The golden arena becomes a gorgeous stage with “Snoop Dogg” entering the audience stand at the side of the stage, with beautiful ladies following him.

The original track “KNOCC ‘EM DOWN”, especially written by “Snoop Dogg” for this game, is played as the background music for the stage.

On the otherhand, special titles such as “Angel & Devil”, “One blow of exhilaration” and “Home Gamer” have been decided for use in the arcade version of “TEKKEN Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited.”

Players can get them by entering the download code found on the enclosed flyer at the official website “TEKKEN-NET”.

“Angel & Devil” commemorates the formation of the legendary tag with the resurrection of “Angel” after 12 years.

“One blow of exhilaration” represents the real thrill of “TEKKEN” offering players an exhilarating fight based on pure instinct.

“Home Gamer” is for users who make a raid at the game center for the first time after a long while since the home video game “TEKKEN Tag Tournament 2”.

Game currency Fight Money 1 Million G, which can be purchased on the official website “TEKKEN-NET”, has also been decided as a bonus.

The money can be used to buy costumes and titles for the character in the arcade version of “TEKKEN Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited.” — TJD, GMA News
